HOMECOMING, 165th Anniversary . . . these are titles that bring memories of those who have gone before us, tenacity, persevering of the saints, victories in Jesus and the like. There also those memories of gossip, tearing down the brotherhood of faith and rejection. The church has seen it all and yet, here we are. Many throughout the centuries have predicted the end of the church and that God’s holy Word would be forgotten in the next generation. Lake Drummond, you have been faithful in raising up a generation that proclaims the Word to a lost and dying world and I salute you. At times, it has not been popular, even amongst friends and family. Wounds have been deep in the battle with the enemy. Lines have been drawn as His people of faith have stood on the inerrant Word of God and continued to proclaim Him.
We celebrate this and remember where we come from and where God is leading us. Sunday, 7/26 through Tuesday, 7/28, we celebrate with Revival, Renewal, and how we are to leave a Legacy.
Lake Drummond Baptist Church was established July 27, 1850, with nine people who were dismissed from Northwest Baptist Church to plant a church closer to the Dismal Swamp Canal. Here we are, 165 years later, three miles east of that canal, named after the lake in the middle of the Great Dismal Swamp. The years have been fruitful and some have been lean. The people of the church over the last over century and a half have stood on God’s holy Word and continued to be the watchmen on the wall proclaiming the warning of coming judgement and the grace of our Lord Jesus.
We invite you to join us for our regular Sunday services and also as three of our former pastors lead us in our nightly services. Come celebrate with us as we remember the days the church has existed, the days in which we live, and the days to come and what our Father would have us to do that all might know Jesus and make Him known.
